About Us

Hello -
My name is Venus, and I'm a sable Burmese. My friend here is Mercury, and he's a blue Burmese. Since I pretty much run things around here, I'll be doing most of the talking while Tubs takes a nap.
Yes, our given names are Venus and Mercury, but we have lots of other names. I often go by Senorita Brown, Beenus D. Cat or Bean. Mercury is also known as Captain Granite, Beefy, Beefers Boy, Tubbers D., Dubbers T., Tubby or Tubs. Collectively, we are sometimes called "The Burrito Twins, Beef and Bean".
We moved to our current home in January, 2004, when our mom and our Sam picked us out. My mom was lonesome for a Burmese, because one had her for 15 years, and got lost after the 1994 Northridge earthquake. After 10 years without a Burmese, she couldn't stand it any more and searched the Internet for a Burmese breeder close to L.A.
That's where we came in! Mom and Sam (her 13-year-old son) came out to where we were living in Lancaster. She had talked to the breeder lady about a neutered male, which was what she had before, but then the lady told her about me! When I was little, I got an upper-respiratory infection, and when they gave me medicine for it, I had a bad reaction to it and lost the sight in my left eye. The lady was having a real hard time finding a home for me, and when Mom and Sam came over, she said that I could go home with them for free! So Mom put me and Mercury both into the carrier and took us to their house.
So, how did we get our names? Well, on the drive to our new home in Sherman Oaks, Sam asked Mom what they were going to name us. Mom said she didn't know yet, and that we would probably let them know what our names were (a wise decision, don't you think?). On the way home, Sam wants to stop at the In 'n' Out Burger. We pull into the lot, but the line is really long, so they had a server outside to take orders from the cars. The girl that comes up to our car was a 6-foot tall Amazon built like a linebacker, and her name tag said "Venus". My mom thought that was really cool. About 5 minutes later, Sam says, "Venus and Mercury!" My mom said, "What?", and Sam said, "Venus and Mercury! That's what we should name the cats!" We thought that those were excellent names, as Mercury is a beautiful silver color (at the time he was a little more quicksilver-like, but that's another story) and I, of course, am the Goddess of Love.
Well, I've done enough talking for now. It's time for me to go and supervise the household. I swear, they can't do anything without me. I'll tell you more later on if I feel like it.

How very cute. Maybe, I'll give my cats a blog, too. Great idea, Alicia!

Heidi - you sound like a very nice and respectful dog - probably due to your European background. Mercury and I have a dog, too, but it took a little bit of training to get her to understand her place in the household. I'm happy to say that she's doing quite well and we are almost fond of her at times.
